Great Milton Bellringers

Welcome to the Great Milton Bellringers Web site

The year 2001 is special for Great Milton, after only 14 months we have raised over £40,000 to have St. Mary's Bells Re-tuned and re-hung.

Whites of Appleton in Oxfordshire are undertaking the work. They have been removed from the tower and taken to their foundry. Whites have made excellent progress and the re-hanging the Bells should take place the first week of November 2001.

With new cast iron stocks fitted to the Bells and mounted on roller bearings our bellringing should be a more pleasurable experience!

The Church of St. Mary's also has a 302-year-old turret clock the oldest in Oxfordshire.

Back row : Alan Booker, Pat Hingley, Mike Hayes, Paul Simms, Graham Griffiths. Front row : Barbara Hingley, Tina Ruff, Kay Bartholomew (Tower Captain), Patricia Walker, Pat Cox and Alex. It has been hand wound for all its years. We decided to move into the 21st century and have an auto winding mechanism fitted.

The present band of Bellringers was established in 1995. All of us were novices to this noble art. We can ring rounds and call changes, and are presently trying to get to grips with method ringing. Such as Plain Bob and grandsire!
